Telkom partners with most-loved radio personalities, in reaching out to consumers

Telecommunications giant Telkom has partnered with strategic influencers for their 2021 consumer products, that the brand is set to benefit quite a number of consumers throughout a variety of radio stations across the country, in their indigenous languages. The brand announced an addition of four influencers to the list of the current five personalities that were introduced in 2020.
The radio personalitis chosen represent a broader range of language spread, which include IsiZulu, IsiXhosa, Xitsonga, Sesotho, Seswana and the Afrikaans speaking community as part of the brand’s radio ALS reach. These influential personalities comprises of Tumi Morake, Khutso Theledi, Leigh-Anne Williams and Martelize Brink.
These four personalities join the the five of the original influencers from 2020 that were announced by Telkom as part of the brand’s strategic approach to advance communication in the African Languages Stations medium. These are the legendary Ukhozi FM’s Dudu “Lady D” Khoza, Zizo Tshwete, Seipati “Twasa” Seoke, Selby Mkhize and Brain Rikhotso.
Speaking to THEDEAL Magazine, Telkom’s Chief Marketing Officer, Gugu Mthembu said as brand Telkom they have connected communities and people since its inception and it is their goal to ensure that communication is always clear, simple and inclusive. She further mentions that the brand has an array of products and services that truly enable a good quality of life for their consumers and want to ensure that there are no barriers in them having the right knowledge in accessing these products and services.
One of the main reasons Telkom partnered with these radio personalities is to promote consumer education, where the personalities can educate the consumers at about the products and services Telkom offers and why they’re impartant in their lives.
“The primary reason that we have them onboard is to drive consumer education, more than them selling Telkom products and services. Theirs is to empower the people at home through the airwaves, the same way they’ve been doing throughout their career since they have been on radio to empower the people at home with information.”, added Telkom’s Chief Marketing Officer, Gugu Mthembu.
Amongst the consumer offerings that Telkom has introduced include its video-streaming platform TelkomONE and the Telkom Digital Wallet which is being operated through WhatsApp platform. Also introduced is Telkom Thola More, where consumers can get free data when they recharge – which is a reward to consumers as it was done with the Monate bundles as part of the brand’s 10th birthday celebrations.
