All roads lead to Moruleng Village this April for the inaugural Mmamitlwa Food and Music Festival, which will present diversity in music, food and culture on 29 April 2023 at the Moruleng Stadium.

 

Mmamitlwa is the name of the beautiful mountains that surround the small village situated about 60km north of Rustenburg in the North West province.

This first of its kind festival will grace the golden village with an amazing music and culinary experience.

 

Over 10 000 music and food lovers are expected to attend the Mmamitlwa Food and Music festival giving them an experience of their lifetime.

 

Spokesperson for the Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela Royal Family Sebele Pilane says the main aim of this festival is to uplift the community and boost the economy of Moruleng.

 

An official launch of the Mmamitlwa food and music festival will take place over two days on 13 and 14 April 2023 where the Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela will embark on a pothole drive in Moruleng.

“The pothole drive is one of the CSI projects that we have for our community.

“During this launch we also want to showcase all the good community work that we have been doing for our people.

“We will also assist child headed households with food parcels and school material support.

“The aim of this festival is for the benefit of our tourism.

“ This is a first of its kind and we want to attract tourists and boost the economy of our beautiful Moruleng.

 

“Our people must be uplifted, so we are inviting artists, entrepreneurs and food vendors to come and showcase their craft.

“We promise to offer a diversity of food from all cultures which include African cuisine, Indian cuisine to our famous South-African braai plates.

“We are also very excited to be the ones to revive the Moruleng Stadium through the Mmamitlwa Food and Music Festival.

“The Moruleng Stadium has never hosted a festival before and this will be its first

“The Moruleng stadium is one of the stadiums that were built during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and as the Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela Royal family we are very excited that the stadium will be bringing the people of North West and the rest of South-Africans to enjoy good food and good music in one venue,” Pilane said.

Music and food lovers will enjoy different types of music genres from Afro Soul, Gospel, Hip-hop, Kwaito and Amapiano while nibbling on their favourite meals.

Pilane says more than 25 local artist have been booked and they will be sharing stages with icons such as Kelly Khumalo, Taki Ndou, Ayanda Ntanzi, MA-O, KO, Makhadzi, Bongo Maffin, Mr JazziQ, Kuli Chana,  Fifi Cooper and many others, emceed by Stoan Seate, Lebo Molax, Lesego Phiri and Thabang Sefotho.Pilane said; “We have made it our duty to ensure that we book as many of our local artists as we can.“ Often in festivals such as this one, local artists are not well represented. We want to change the narrative at Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela”.

 

The Mmamitlwa Food and Music festival promises to deliver a festival where patriots will be able to enjoy good food and good music in one venue.

Tickets for the Mmamitlwa food and music festival are sold at Computicket. Early bird tickets cost R100.

General access tickets cost R150, General access sold at the gate will be R250, VIP is R700 and entrance with a cooler box will cost R100.
