Bassline Live is excited to announce an extraordinary event on May 23, 2025, as it celebrates Africa Day at the renowned Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg. The History Of House will feature the electrifying dance music producer and DJ MÖRDA, alongside the renowned Soweto Gospel Choir, promising an evening filled with music, culture, and a profound sense of unity.
Tickets will be available for purchase from Webtickets starting from R350 to R650 at https://www.webtickets.co.za/v2/event.aspx?itemid=1567690256
At the heart of this celebration is the collaboration between the Soweto Gospel Choir and MÖRDA. The Soweto Gospel Choir, a 3x Grammy-winning ensemble, is celebrated globally for their mesmerising performances that blend traditional African music with contemporary gospel.
Together, this incredible lineup, brought to you by Bassline Live in Association with BET, will present an authentic fusion of global beats, Afro house, Amapiano, and house music, transcending boundaries and uniting diverse cultures through the power of music.
This is not the choir’s first foray into dance music. Soweto Gospel Choir, and Australia’s first “Superstar DJ,” the electronic artist Groove Terminator,  released their History of House album in 2024. When Groove Terminator (Simon Lewicki) first conceptualised History of House, his appreciation for the roots of dance music within Africa pointed him in the direction of The Soweto Gospel Choir. As the 17-member Choir put their spin on the House staples, the decision was made to record in Zulu and to incorporate more elements of South African culture in both the musical and visual aspects of the project. And to ensure the recordings kept that classic House vibe, Grammy-winning producer and dance music veteran Dennis White, aka Latroit, was brought onto the project. This collaborative approach promises to create an unforgettable musical experience, combining Grammy-nominated MÖRDA’s infectious beats with the choir’s powerful harmonies, allowing audiences to revel in the uniqueness of South African sounds. The performance will feature popular songs like “Silence” and “Ride Like the Wind,” alongside the dynamic “History of House” Produced by Groove Terminator, a prominent figure in the global music scene, as well as Producer Latroit, also known as Dennis White.
MÖRDA, a former member of the celebrated duo Black Motion, recently released his chart-topping album “Asante 3,” which features the poignant focus track “Glory,” showcasing powerhouse vocalists Nomfundo Moh and Nontokozo Mkhize. This track embodies a unique fusion of pulsing basslines, haunting melodies, and soaring harmonies, evoking the feeling of sunrise after a long night—a perfect reflection of celebration and prayer.
“I want this music to bring peace and joy. I want people to dance, to feel free,” MÖRDA expressed. “This album is for the people. It’s for the streets. It’s for healing.” His passion for music and its powerful impact is evident, as he brings transformative experiences to the stage through his live event series, Vault by MÖRDA, designed to connect his sonic vision with audiences directly.
