City of Joburg kicks-off the festive season

The City of Johannesburg has kicked-off its festive season campaign with a bang, the ekasi way that resonate with the locals and the travelers to the most loved, vibrant and enjoyed city of gold. A City that allows you to work, visit and play all at the same time.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development Cllr. Lawrence Khoza launched the festive season campaign at Sakhumzi Restaurant at Vilakazi Street in Soweto, themed #Welcome2Joburg – A City reimagined. Before that, the City officials accompanying the MMC had activation stops at the Sandton Gautrain Station, Rosebank Gautrain Station, Maponya Mall and upon arriving at final stop of activation at Vilakazi Street.
Talking about this campaign, Cllr Khoza emphasized the compliance of COVID19 regulations while exploring the City of Joburg and enjoying themselves during this festive season. “Many people did not see Joburg as this attractive place around the festive season, many people think you need to go to the coast during this time of the year. So, it’s an important one because it says to the people of Joburg and outside of Joburg that this city is quite attractive around the festive, simply because we have so many places that people can visit during the festive”, said MMC Cllr Lawrence Khoza.

As a strategic precinct for the City of Johannesburg to launch this campaign is simply because of the value it brings to the economic opportunities in the township of Soweto. Vilakazi Street alone has created meaningful job opportunities as economic opportunities in this area have had a significant impact to the locals and the community at large.
The restaurant sector most especially in the township has been seen booming with local and international travelers, exploring the vibrancy that the ekasi sheek can offer to the visitors. These township restaurants have not only created the much-needed jobs but have become the historic landmarks that leave travelers talking about wherever they go.
The launch of #Welcome2Joburg – a City reimagined campaign intends to re-ignite the hard-hit domestic tourism industry and communicate the interventions in place to assist local tourism towards economic recovery, through rollout of relief funds and other planned mechanisms.
Holiday traveler and residents of Joburg can look forward to festivals like the Festival of Lights at the Joburg Zoo, visits to the museums, restaurants and shopping at the most-loved shopping malls that Joburg has to offer.
