Gauteng kicks-off Smart Mobility Weekends campaign in Ekurhuleni

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has this weekend - Saturday and Sunday, 12 and 13 March 2022, taken its road network improvement drive, the Smart Mobility Weekends Campaign – to Brakpan, in Ekurhuleni.

The campaign is aimed at improving the overall conditions of the province’s road network. Also ensures drivers, the people of the province on Gauteng roads have the adequate road infrastructure, which enables convenience to their daily transit on the roads as part of the Department's drive to maintain roads infrastructure.

Smart Mobility Weekends, undertaken jointly with municipalities, seek to build partnerships to seamlessly attend to the important task of enhancing road maintenance of provincial and local networks.

The Smart Mobility Weekends campaign activation in Brakpan, was attended by Gauteng's MEC for Roads and Transport Jacob Mamabolo, MMC for Transport in the City of Ekurhuleni Cllr Alco Ngobese, amongst other dignitaries.

It primarily aims to ensure that all public roads in Gauteng are kept to acceptable standards, are safe and allow for smart, easy movement of people and goods as part of the Department’s strategy of Growing Gauteng Together Through Smart Mobility.

Activities will include, but not limited to, grass cutting; patching of potholes; undertaking road markings; installing signage and fixing traffic lights.
