It’s Your Country, Enjoy It – Mpumalanga awaits to welcome you, zwakala!

Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), an entity of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism has launched the 2024 instalment of the Tourism Month, at the Incwala Lodge in Makhazeni.
The much anticipated tourism month launch took place at the Incwala Lodge, which is located in the middle of the breath-taking region of the Nkangala District Municipality, with a distinct kind of hospitality that is uniquely Mpumalanga, nestled in the mountains of Emgwenya – a sanctuary of bird life.
To enhance further economic growth in the tourism sector for the province especially during tourism month, the Mpumalanga Government will further undertake a set of activities to foster tourism awareness in local communities of the province, especially, within the townships and the less visited areas of the province.
This was according to the province’s MEC of Economic Development and Tourism, Makhosazane Masilela who unveiled the province’s plans during the media launch, that the aim is to create awareness about domestic travel among communities, with a special focus on travel to rural areas, villages and small towns.
“As part of the awareness, the province looks forward to hosting promotional events from the first to the last week of September to enhance visitor numbers and such activities include the Tourism Expo which is the vessel platform of buying and selling between interprovincial exhibitors and buyers of tourism products and services. We also have the Barberton Makhonjwa Mountain Marathon coming up on the 28th which too will advance economic growth for surrounding SMMES.” said Masilela.

Gearing to the actual tourism month media launch, MTPA hosted various media representatives as well as content creators, as part of exposing the offerings of the province of Mpumalanga, and ensuring there is sufficient awareness around the products that the province has to offer to travellers.
Speaking at the launch of the tourism month, MTPA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Justus Mohlala, made an emphasis on the locality of tourism in the area, which include heritage sites with their rich history, the hiking trails, horse-riding and nature reserves. And as a management authority for tourism marketing and development, these facilities need to be in a standard that make travellers made Mpumalanga a destination of choice.
“In the process of marketing the destination as a preferred destination of choice in terms of tourism, we take those facilities that offer experiences like wildlife in the Manyeleti Nature Reserve where you can see the Big Five, the facilities that offer scenic beauty like the Panorama Route, as well as packaging those offerings for domestic and international shows as part of promoting destination Mpumalanga”, said Mohlala.
