Midrand’s dining and entertainment landscape has shifted up a gear with the official launch of ALUR, an upmarket restaurant and lifestyle lounge at the Carlswald Lifestyle Centre. The venue, which opened its doors in August, is the brainchild of a seasoned restaurateur and aims to deliver a premium hospitality experience without the need to travel into Sandton.

As evening falls, ALUR transitions into a lively lounge across three bars and an outdoor veranda, complemented by an upstairs VIP area and a dedicated Whisky Lounge for guests seeking privacy and intimacy.

Afro-Latin Menu Redefines Familiar Flavours

The culinary direction, led by Head Chef Naledi Toona, balances familiar South African flavours with Latin American influences. Standout dishes include the mogodu taco and chipo—a playful, Latin-inspired take on the traditional South African tripe dish—as well as chipotle chicken feet. “We wanted to create something distinctive that takes our patrons on a journey of discovery, moving between familiar and exotic flavours,” says Chef Toona. The menu reflects ALUR’s broader philosophy of encouraging guests to explore familiar tastes in new ways while staying connected to South African culinary identity.
