St John’s College is pleased to present the 19th St John’s College Basketball Tournament, brought to you by Standard Bank, in association with Avis, from 22 to 25 February.

Sixty-two teams from Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu Natal, as well as neighbouring Eswatini and Zimbabwe will be joining us at the Tournament. The competition format includes a round-robin phase, with the top sides going on to play in the knockout stages in the U19 and U15 age-group categories. The U13 teams will enjoy a festival format.

This four-day event promises loads of fun for the whole family with food vendors providing plenty to eat and drink, a bar that will be open from 10h00 until 18h00 and Chill-Out lounges to relax between games.

“There are so many valuable character-building lessons to be learned on the courts — passion, commitment, hard work, perseverance and dealing with success or disappointment graciously,” says Stuart West, Executive Headmaster at St John’s College. “We encourage our players to commit to good sportsmanship, healthy rivalry and fair play throughout the tournament as we celebrate the new friendships made this weekend.”

Tournaments like these would not be possible without the support of our partners. Thank you to our headline sponsor, Standard Bank, for joining us at the courts, along with AVIS, PPS and SuperSport Schools.

“We are proud to be associated with the St John’s College Basketball tournament and believe that it presents participants with the chance to learn from competition and challenges, two vital aspects of life. We are firm believers in the power of sport to change lives through our long-standing commitment to the school and believe that this tournament will help advance that goal,” says Tshiamo Molanda, Standard Bank Head of Youth and Mass Market PPB SA.

We wish the players, coaches, managers, officials, and spectators – at the courts or home – a terrific weekend of competitive basketball. We trust our boys will build many friendships, hone their skills, and compete keenly on the court.
