A deliciously unique experience is arriving in the heart of the city as The Pastry Playhouse, presented by Sunday Times, hosts South Africa’s first-ever dedicated pastry festival on 13 December at The Empire Building from 9 am to 6 pm. Designed to celebrate creativity, craftsmanship, and community, this exclusive culinary event promises a full day of delicious delights for the whole family.
The festival features renowned chefs who are paving the way for upcoming culinary stars, Doug Momberg, who is an active member of the SA Chefs Gauteng Committee, Kyle Van Ross, Assistant Manager at Johannesburg Culinary & Pastry School, as well as bronze medalist for the World Chefs Global Chefs Challenge, Capsicum Chef Maseehah Karodia.
With only 400–500 tickets available, THE PASTRY PLAYHOUSE offers an intimate, limited-access festival where families, food lovers, aspiring bakers, and pastry enthusiasts can indulge in a one-of-a-kind immersive experience. Guests can look forward to bake-offs, signature dessert challenges, interactive workshops, pop-up pastry markets, tasting stalls, and a wide range of family-friendly activities that highlight the art and joy of baking.
The festival’s mission is to bring people together through flavour, creativity, and shared passion—while uplifting local culinary talent and inspiring the next generation of bakeries. Tickets can be purchased on Quicket for R350 per adult and R100 for children under 12. Each ticket includes your choice of two pastries and a cup of coffee.
