Xaba claims victory in Tshwane SPAR Women’s 10KM challenge

The SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane, held at SuperSport Park on Sunday, 3 August, was a resounding success, drawing 15,000 women to the starting line. The event, part of the SPAR Grand Prix series, the continent’s most popular and richest women’s road running series, continues to grow in stature and impact.
The race celebrated women’s athleticism and provided a platform for giving back to the community. This year, the event raised R400 000 for the MENstruation Foundation in collaboration with Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angel initiative. Additionally, R10,000 was donated to the Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation, while Miss Teen Finalist Rebantle Ndlovu received R5,000 for her sanitary pad initiative.
“The Women’s Challenge is more than just a race; it’s a platform to bring women together, raise awareness about important issues, and create lasting change,” said Ralph Rajagopaul, SPAR North Rand Marketing Executive. “The SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane perfectly aligns with SPAR’s commitment to health, wellness, and community upliftment. By sponsoring this event, we aim to promote an active lifestyle among women while also supporting crucial causes.”
On the road, Tshwane’s very own Glenrose Xaba stormed to victory, defeating the current champion, Tadu Nare, for the first time since 2019. The local hero clocked an impressive time of 32:53. Double Olympic Games gold medalist Caster Semenya finished in 10th place with a time of 37:14, expressing her delight with the event and her teammate’s performance. “I really enjoyed the race, and I think I will do more of them,” she said.
The event was a vibrant spectacle, with entertainment provided by Jamali and a star-studded guest list, including the Deputy Mayor of the City of Tshwane, Dr Nasiphi Moya. Jacaranda FM’s Rozanne McKenzie, Martin Bester, and Guinness World Record holder Vanes-Mari Du Toit added to the excitement as MCs for the day.
Retha Ingenbleek, SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane Race Organiser, expressed her gratitude to all participants, partners, sponsors, and teams for their contributions to the event’s success. “It was an incredible day, filled with energy, passion, and camaraderie. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on 2 August 2025 for another unforgettable SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane.”
